Sono presentati gli utilizzi di dati satellitari nel processo di calibrazione delle mappe offshore dell’atlante eolico dell’Italia di RSE e una metodologia che consente di eseguire stime della velocità di lungo periodo in siti di misura offshore tramite analisi di correlazione con misure satellitari.

The use of satellite data in the calibration process of the offshore maps of the wind atlas of Italy (developed by RSE) are presented. The average annual offshore wind speed is still affected by high uncertainty due to the lack of enough measures in marine areas under consideration. The satellite data used came from NASA's QuikSCAT satellite and covered a period of about six years. These data are the only ones uniformly and continuously present in all offshore areas, but have a high uncertainty (about 2 m / s) for a number of reasons: the measurement is indirect (the satellite detects the ripple of the sea surface) and requires processing, the data is more uncertain in closed basins such as the Mediterranean Sea and close to the coast, the measuring points are about 25 km apart and are carried out only two surveys a day.
 
A methodology that allows to estimate the long-term average wind speed in an offshore measurement site through correlation study with satellite measurements is also presented. Applying this methodology to the RSE met station measurements in Pianosa Island (Tremiti – Apulian Region), the calculated long term wind speed resulted in good agreement with the one actually measured.
