This method is used in nuclear power plants as a safety system in order to reduce the dispersion of radioactive aerosols to the environment as a result of a severe accident. It can also be used as a filtering system to purify gas streams of pollutants such as smoke due to combustion boilers or steam generators fed with coal or biomass.
