Leveraging reliable analytical tools, the project thus aims to &#8220;sow the seeds&#8221; for the broad application to the <em>Energy Efficiency First<\/em> (EE1) principle.<br \/>\n&nbsp;\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\nThe project has the following specific objectives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Extend and improve the MICATool (developed under the previous H2020 MICAT project) to enable the analysis of potentially competing or complementary options toward climate neutrality. The definition of climate neutrality pathways may in fact benefit from different energy demand-side and supply-side contributions. Therefore, the project extends the <em>Multiple Impacts<\/em> (MI) analysis framework to address not only energy efficiency solutions, but also renewable energy sources. In addition, downstream from the REFEREE and <em>Assessment Tool<\/em> projects, a policy module will be added to enable decision makers to assess targeted and cross-sectoral policies. The MICATool will be developed in consultation with policy makers and officials from the EU, Italy, the Czech Republic and Germany.<\/li>\n<li>Integrate MIs into European, national, regional, and local policymaking and developing a useful tool for EU member States to comply with EE1-related reporting requirements introduced by the new European Energy Efficiency Directive.<\/li>\n<li>Implement the MI analysis on concrete policy cases, e.g., analyzing import dependence, energy system resilience, and biodiversity impacts, evaluating the replicability of the methodology from selected member States to other countries and regions.
