areas of work and specific objectives on which the project worked during the year are:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Waste-to-energy<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Characterization of municipal waste production and national MBT and W-t-E facilities<\/em>: updating and organizing the databases collected in previous years in the RSE Bioenergy DB; status analysis of the national supply chains examined<\/li>\n<li><em>Life Cycle Costing of the waste-MBT-SRF-energy supply chain<\/em>: application of the analysis to selected typical facilities representative of the national context, according to the criteria identified in the previous year<\/li>\n<li><em>Life Cycle Assessment of the waste-MBT-SRF-energy supply chain<\/em>: application of the analysis to selected typical plants representative of the national context, according to the criteria identified in the previous year<\/li>\n<li><em>Legislation:<\/em>annual scientific contribution to the work of national (CTI) and international (CEN; ISO) committees in technical standardization pertaining to energy recovery from waste and solid recovered fuels (SRF)<\/li>\n<li><em>International Activities<\/em>: annual scientific contribution to studies and dissemination activities promoted by IEA <em>Bioenergy<\/em> Task 36 on technological and <em>governance<\/em>(support to <em>decision makers<\/em>) aspects pertaining to using waste for energy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Bio-hydrogen and bio-products from agro-industrial residues<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Bio-H<sub>2<\/sub> from rice husk residue<\/em>: completion of the experimentation, started in the previous year, on the producibility, from the husk residue, of the energy vector hydrogen by fermentation (<em>dark fermentation<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li><em>Biorefining of rice husk residue<\/em>: technical\/economic\/environmental assessment of a possible <em>biorefining<\/em> supply chain (production of bio-H<sub>2<\/sub>and bio-products)&lt;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Biogas-to-biomethane upgrading<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Biogas-to-biomethane upgrading technology<\/em>: completion of field validation (on RSE BioMetUp pilot plant,) of zeolite solid sorbent performance; zeolite upgrading process modeling; tri-generative plant simulator (biogas-to-biomethane upgrading process with zeolite coupled with cogeneration engine)<\/li>\n<li><em>Legislation<\/em>: scientific contribution to the annual activities of national (IGC) and international (CEN) committees working on the technical standardization of biomethane and its feed-in<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Combustion of agricultural residual biomass<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Technology for direct combustion of corn stover bales<\/em>: creation and installation at a <em>stakeholder<\/em> site of the pilot plant designed in the previous year<\/li>\n<li><em>Modeling simulations<\/em><em>: <\/em>completion of the simulation, started in the previous year, of the performance of a fire tube boiler to which the designed stover bale combustion system will be functionally connected<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Pollutant emissions from biomass plants<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Formaldehyde emissions<\/em>: completion of the experimental campaign to verify the performance of measurement methods (EPA 323, spectrophotometric; VDI 3862-2, HPLC) initiated in the previous year&lt;<\/li>\n<li><em>Pollutant emission abatement technology<\/em>: production of the innovative combined flue gas treatment device (particulate and NOx) designed in the previous year<\/li>\n<li><em>Legislation:<\/em> scientific contribution to the annual activities of national (UNI) and international (CEN, ISO) committees, working on the technical standardization of emissions and air quality measurement
