However, little is still known about the mechanisms of this interesting corrosion prevention method. In this article, the corrosion behaviors of carbon steels (X80) were studied in the presence of three different marine species of Vibrio bacteria. The results showed that all three Vibrio spp. exhibited significant corrosion protection with a reduction in weight loss of up to 68%.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the performance was closely related to their ability to form biofilms, in the order: Vibrio sp. EF187016 &gt; Vibrio alginolyticus &gt; Vibrio parahaemolyticus. To further study the corrosion prevention mechanism caused by marine biofilms, various percentages of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) were extracted from Vibrio sp. EF187016 and added to a 3.5% NaCl solution by weight.
