Generally, flexibility is channeled through energy and balancing markets. This work specifically delves into the case of flexibility provided by ancillary services.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The model is simulated using a real district heating plant in the eastern area of Milan, Italy, participating in the balancing market. The results highlight the barriers posed by current regulations and market rules in accepting flexibility from Multiple Energy Systems (MES). However, encouragingly, there is significant flexibility available from a wide range of multi-energy systems.
