The study is based on the energy scenarios of the Italian National Integrated Plan for Climate and Energy (PNIEC) and assumes that the plant participates in ancillary services markets. It assesses the economic barriers and main factors influencing the competitiveness of power-to-gas. The results show that although power-to-gas is a technically feasible solution to support the flexibility of the power system, the economics of the pilot plant are strongly influenced by component and operational costs.
