This is why we need a method for early diagnosis of defects in joint installation as well as a continuous online monitoring system. For this purpose, we adapted a previously developed sensor by improving certain features. This sensor is based on the measurement of the current induced on a conductor due to a change in charge. It was tested experimentally on a real joint in which defects were introduced artificially. The results showed that the sensor is able to detect partial discharges (PDs). We also developed a method for the localization of PDs.
