The objective of the study is to compare the externalities generated by different engines of an average private passenger car over the entire life cycle. The comparison includes electric, plug-in hybrid, CNG, gasoline, and diesel engines. The methodology developed to calculate external costs due to different technology options uses damage factors that assume a geographic allocation of potential impacts derived from the application of LCA methodology. For the assessment of external costs, emissions of PM2.5, NOx, SO2, NH3 NMVOC and CO2eq were considered.
