Its role as a link between the European and African continents is becoming increasingly important due to the planned upcoming implementation of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) corridors, such as the so-called Tyrrhenian link and the interconnection with Tunisia. In this context, the paper presents a model of the electric generation and transmission system of Sicily, including the Tyrrhenian link and two equivalent busbars to represent the Sardinian system and the rest of the European continental synchronous grid, for both static and dynamic analyses purposes. The model was developed in Neplan and is based on the actual structure of the Sicilian power system. The rest of the European continental system is represented in the model and validated by comparison with the large-scale dynamic model of the European continental system provided by ENTSO-E (European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity).
