These considerations formed the basis for RSE&#8217;s research activities. From 2015 to 2018, within the framework of the project &#8220;Transmission and Distribution Networks in Direct Current,&#8221; funded by System Research, the feasibility of reinforcing existing alternating current (AC) distribution networks by connecting multiple lines with DC connections (Medium Voltage Direct Current &#8211; MVDC) was studied, creating a mesh network and enhancing DC connections also in the transmission network (High Voltage Direct Current &#8211; HVDC). Additionally, a low voltage DC microgrid was developed and is available at RSE for conducting experimental validations of these activities.
