The so-called \u2018seismic capacity curve\u2019 of these infrastructures now appears to be technically and commercially feasible due to modern techniques, finite elements, hardware capabilities, and the positive experiences made to date. Key topics addressed during the seismic evaluation of dams are also discussed using different viewpoints and examples, including: the selection of seismic parameters, the progressive level of detail for numerical simulations, the implementation of nonlinear behaviors, and the definition of service and collapse limit states. Approaches taken by local institutions and engineers to the topic of dam capacity curves will be discussed starting from the authors’ experiences, and an overview of time and resources to help decision makers will be outlined.
