From the grid point of view, electric ferries represent a large new load and, despite electric vehicles, few data and studies about their charging behaviour are available.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This paper aims to address this gap with a comprehensive assessment of the charging requirement of an electrified ferry fleet. A real case study is considered, i.e. the ferries in service in the three major Italian Lakes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The energy consumptions of the ferries under typical profile missions are analysed. Two charging strategies are considered: \u201covernight charging\u201d at the end of the service and \u201copportunity charging\u201d during docking time.
