Due to their non-programmability, combined with the fact that renewable energy plants are devoid of mechanical inertia, there are important repercussions on the stability of the electricity grids, in particular as regards the regulation of the frequency and voltage of the grids.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to present the State-of-the-Art relating to some technological solutions capable of supporting the power system stability in scenarios with high penetration of renewable sources.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In particular, the paper focuses on synchronous compensators, STATCOMs and supercapacitors.
