The electrification of vessels represents at the same time an initial and innovative phenomenon to achieve national and international targets in terms of environment and air quality protection.<\/p>\n

In Italy, most of ports are not connected to the national electricity grid, relying on diesel generation. A new heavy electric load, consisting of the recharging of an electrified vessel, could add destabilizing elements which deserve investigation. This situation can be particularly serious for areas where they already suffer from difficult topological conditions, such as smaller islands not interconnected to the national transmission network.<\/p>\n

A methodology for the estimation of the impact on the electricity grid of a smaller island is established.
