Lithium-ion batteries are the reference technology due to their high energy density and durability, but their sustainability is debated, especially in Europe, where production relies on Critical Raw Materials (CRM) like lithium, mostly imported from Asia. The European Commission, through the CRM Act, promotes actions to reduce this dependency, including diversification of sources, recycling, and CRM substitution.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The most promising post-lithium technology to reduce CRM dependency is sodium-ion. Several companies are already producing sodium-ion batteries, with performance close to lithium-ion LFP batteries.
