It proposed innovative solutions to complement those already established to improve the response characteristics of infrastructures to environmental and anthropogenic stresses through the introduction of new technologies and new components in the electrical sector. RSE has developed in its MV Cable Diagnostics laboratory a feture that allows both the study of the dynamics of degradation of the insulation system under simulated conditions of dried soil, and the study of the effect of moisture in the case of direct laying of components in the ground, before and after rainfall of different intensity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The study was carried out using innovative diagnostic techniques side by side with traditional techniques for surveying the Power Factor and partial discharges. It can be argued that temperature plays an important role in the degradation process of insulation systems: in fact, in self-shrinking joints, it often generates creep between materials with different expansion coefficients, creating sites of activity for partial discharges.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the case of direct installation in the ground, the presence of moisture is a good element of thermal dissipation, but in the case where the hydraulic barriers, made upstream and downstream of the joint, are inefficient, water penetrates, promoting the process of degradation of the performance of the component. During the year, a number of acquisition systems were also evaluated in terms of reliability and efficiency to be inserted directly into the Internet of Thing network to acquire localized information on the level of current circulating in the cable conductors, the surface temperature of the joint and the ground in addition to the level of moisture present in the latter.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another objective of the activity carried out is to provide stakeholders with methodologies and tools that can facilitate the management and maintenance of the electricity distribution network, increasing its resilience and reducing disruptions to end users.
