This report describes what has been carried out for the monitoring of emissions, the containment of olfactory nuisances, the European pre-regulatory activities, the realization of a conference on pollutant emissions.
\nThe work on the AEDOS system has continued and, for odor control, an experimental exercise has been carried out to assess the reliability of the so-called IOMS. The European Green Deal represents a strong driver towards an ever deeper and more complete decarbonization of the energy system; anyway, decarbonizing does not necessarily mean to avoid the combustion processes, but resorting to fuels that are less and less impactful and biogenic in nature. In order to assess the effectiveness of the adopted strategies, reliable regulations must be developed to monitor the emissions.<\/p>\n

Taking in mind that such regulations could have significant impacts on different industrial processes, RSE oversees some European pre-normative activities in the field of emission monitoring; such activities also support the development of specific experimental activities aimed at improving the quality and reliability of measurements.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The activities followed in 2023 were mainly related to the monitoring of emissions carried out by SME systems and the containment of olfactory nuisances. In relation to the monitoring of emissions, the activity related to the AEDOS system was carried out, i.e. an open source information system for the management of environmental data that allows control authorities to carry out their activities at no additional cost.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, in relation to the control of olfactory nuisances, an experimental work was carried out for a first evaluation of the reliability of the so-called IOMS (Instrumental Odour Monitoring Systems), trying to develop a first mathematical model for the calibration of these devices.<\/p>\n

Finally, with regard to dissemination activities, in 2023 RSE organized the public event, free of charge, called \u201cEmissions conference\u201d, which saw the participation of over 1000 learners.<\/p>\n
