Important opportunities have therefore been created for the development of devices that are suitable for the characteristics of the resource of sites in the Mediterranean, also using coastal infrastructures for their installation.<\/p>\n<p>The WaveSAX device is a Wave Energy Converter (WEC) of the Oscillating Water Column (OWC) type conceived and developed by RSE, in which the main feature consists in the fact that the Wells-type generation turbine is immersed in water.<br \/>\nIn previous years of research, the main aspects relating to the potential role of wave generation in the energy transition of ports were analysed and numerical simulations were carried out with the aid of a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code of the WaveSAX device in order to optimize its design and verify its behaviour as the characteristics of the incident wave motion and the number of turbine blades inserted in the device vary, leading to a progressive optimization of the device&#8217;s performance.<\/p>\n<p>The objective of this activity is to carry out numerical analyses and simulations to evaluate the possibility of using the WaveSAX device in an offshore environment, having in mind its installation near offshore wind farms. A mathematical model was developed for the offshore version of the device, the possible interference between neighbouring devices in energy production was studied and the analysis of the park in offshore wind generation platforms was studied.<\/p>\n<p>The activities carried out made it possible to characterize the behaviour and performance of the WaveSax Offshore device, providing methodologies for optimal sizing based on local installation conditions and indications for the optimal configuration of a fleet of devices that could be installed in combination with wind platforms offshore.
