At the international level: the global initiative Mission Innovation – \u2018Accelerating the Clean Energy Revolution\u2019, with particular reference to the Innovation Challenge on Smart Grids (IC1); the TCP \u2018Technology Collaboration Programmes’ of the Electricity group of the End Use Working Party of the International Energy Agency (IEA), including ISGAN – International Smart Grids Action Network, IEA WIND and the CERT (Committee on Energy Research and Technology) of the IEA.<\/p>\n
At the European level: EERA – European Energy Research Alliance, the initiative aimed at coordinating energy research for a low-emission Europe, in particular the Joint Programme Smart Grids (JPSG) and the European Commission’s initiatives under the SET Plan.<\/p>\n
At the national and regional levels: activities to support initiatives for developing interactions between the world of Research and the world of Industry and promoting Research and Innovation themes in the territory. In particular, the Report summarises the main activities and results obtained in the following areas: (a) Mission Innovation Initiative – Innovation Challenge on Smart Grids (IC1).<\/strong> Our active participation as a co-leader of the Challenge, together with China and India, in organising the 5th IC1 deep dive Workshop in Vancouver and the activities and actions developed by interacting with the 21 members of IC1, the European Community, Agencies and Forums operating at the international level and representatives of the industrial sector, have allowed us to make an important contribution to the development of this initiative, which at the national level is an opportunity to accelerate public and private efforts on research and innovation in clean energy, to the development of which Italy is strongly committed.<\/p>\n By actively participating in IC1, we also had evidence of the Italian excellence in the field of innovative electricity grids and the importance of research in this sector.<\/p>\n (b) TCP<\/strong> (Technology Collaboration Programmes) of the International Energy Agency IEA<\/strong> , including ISGAN<\/strong> (International Smart Grids Action Network) and IEA WIND<\/strong>, and IEA Committee on Energy Research and Technology \u2013 CERT. The coordination of ISGAN, the active participation in the activities of the TCPs and the coordination of the Electricity group in the IEA End Use Working Party<\/strong> have allowed to continue the activity of internationally sharing skills in the field of Smart Grids and wind energy. Actions were also developed to work in synergy with the initiative Mission Innovation – Innovation Challenge on Smart Grids (IC1), such as the organisation of the first joint ISGAN and IC1 Workshop held in Vancouver which highlighted possible synergies and topics of common interest, with particular reference to Storage and Flexibility issues.<\/p>\n (c) CEM (Clean Energy Ministerial)<\/strong> , a high-level discussion forum for the promotion of voluntary cooperation between the world’s leading economies in order to increase the supply of sustainable energy and energy efficiency at a global level. Italy has participated in the work of CEM since its first edition in 2010, at the government level as well as through national representatives of the industrial and research sectors. Within CEM, RSE’s goal is to provide specialist technical support to the Italian Ministry of Economic Development (MiSE) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).<\/p>\n (d) EERA Research Alliance (European Energy Research Alliance)<\/strong>. Coordination of the Joint Program on Smart Grids (EERA JP SG). Active participation in EERA has allowed to highlight Italy’s role as a director for the development of Research initiatives in the energy and Smart Grid fields, and to confirm the harmonisation of Research carried out in Italy according to Community objectives.<\/p>\n (e) Promotion of Research and Innovation themes in the Utilities sector<\/strong>. Research and Innovation (R&I) are fundamental elements to complete the transformation that the Utilities sector is going through.
