These needs have become increasingly apparent over the years as a result of global warming, now confirmed by numerous scientific studies. Climate change is also causing an increase in extreme events (heavy rainfall, violent wind gusts, heavy snowfall) that threaten the operation of the electricity system.<br \/>\nThe CLIMED web-gis portal has been created with the aim of providing an easy-to-use tool for consulting climate projections developed on the basis of archives of weather-climatic data shared by the international scientific community. The site makes it possible to view, on an annual or seasonal time scale, expected future scenarios in terms of gradual climate variations and changes in some indices characterizing climate extremes.<\/p>\n<p>From the site it is possible to analyze the reference climatic conditions for the period 1971-2000. These are obtained from the international archives E-OBS, MESAN and EURO4M (based on observed data). It is also possible to visualize multi-model scenarios of the present and future climate for the short, medium and long term (2021-2050, 2041-2070 and 2071-2100 respectively), developed using the results of high-resolution (~12 km) Euro-CORDEX (Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment) regional climate models, obtained considering different radiative forcing hypotheses (RCP8.5, RCP4.5 and RCP2.6). Furthermore, for the period 1971-2100, it is possible to analyze the expected annual\/seasonal climate trends for each Italian region.<\/p>\n<p>The climate data were processed using the CDO (Climate Data Operators) commands available in the R statistical environment. The web-gis portal was created using various open source tools\/frameworks. The climate data and indices are represented by thematic maps and their rendering is performed using the geographic server Geoserver in combination with the PostgreSQL\/PostGIS database. The CLIMED web application was built using Bootstrap and AngularJS.
