Currently, RSE&#8217;s Test Facility is an experimental low-voltage microgrid equipped with generation systems, energy storage, and loads used for measuring and validating new control strategies for power grids. The enhancement of this infrastructure includes the establishment of a hybrid AC\/DC multiterminal network by creating a medium-voltage grid and a third terminal in the DC network, forming a loop between the two networks. Specifically, the MV grid and the third terminal of the LV DC microgrid will allow for the development of innovative solutions for managing power flows between grids, as well as testing parallel operation with the grid and island mode functionality. The connection between the AC and DC grids will be established through a 100 kVA AC\/DC converter, which will need to support grid-following, grid-forming, and grid-supporting control functions. Another important activity to be carried out at the Test Facility will be the management of the MV grid protection system. Through the development of a communication infrastructure between MV grid substations, a coordinated protection system will be implemented based on logical selectivity, using communication signals such as exchanging blocking and forced tripping commands between directional protection devices.
