Air Quality Ground-Based observational data for evaluating regional-scale models: the AQMEII experience

Two applications of the infrared thermography for the measurement of the thermal diffusivity of thermal barrier coatings usually applied for the protection of hot path components of gas turbines are here presented. The first application concerns a method for the semi-quantitative estimation of the cracked fraction of the interface between the metallic bondcoat and the ceramic thermal barrier coatings (TBC). In the latter application, relevant information about the microstructure of inter-lamellar crack-like pores has been obtained by measuring the thermal diffusivity of TBC when pores are filled with different gases at different pressures.
