    Bio-cathode as alternative cheap solution at the platinum-based cathode in microbial fuel cell system.

    At the symposium, the University of Connecticut were presented the results of the ongoing collaboration between CSR and 3CNR-ITAE. the performance of the cathodes with a microporous layer of graphite (MPL) on the water side were compared with those of cathodes without MPL on the water side and with a layer of PTFE on the diffusive air side in microbial fuel cells to single compartment, inoculated with water raw wastewater and added with 3 g / l of sodium acetate. We assessed the behavior of cathode materials, the generation output of the cells and the degradation of organic matter (COD). The presence of the cathode MPL has ensured the best performance of the cells.
