Optical and electrical characterization of a voltage sensor prototype for electric boards

Si riportano i risultati preliminari di caratterizzazioni ottica ed elettrica di un dispositivo per la misura della tensione in quadri MT.

Main requirements for Distribution network are the availability of reliable and low cost sensors to be integrated in electrical components. Recently, Utilities and Manufacturers promoted new technologies and devices for monitoring the operating parameters (voltage, current, phase) of Medium Voltage (MV) electric boards at their energized phase terminals. The aim of these efforts is to achieve distributed information by means of an increase of the number of measurement points as a Smart Grid intrinsically requires.

The on-line voltage control of optical type proposed herein is intrinsically safe and with large bandwidth. In this work performances of an optical sensor suitable for Voltage monitoring in MV substations were assessed. Results of preliminary electric characterization showed a good agreement (<1% error) between measurement data and the simulation of electrical response, confirming the good quality of the used optical components and the effectiveness of the adopted layout.
