Retrieve of aerosol information using spectral data and comparison with MACC forecasts

The rapid growth of unforeseeable solar production has driven the research towards more and more accurate forecast of incoming solar radiation. For the management of solar plants a reliable estimate of the all radiation components is necessary. In particular, concentration photovoltaics (CPV), solar tracking systems and concentrated solar power (CSP) exploit the direct component. In clear sky conditions, the amount of this component is mainly affected by the presence of aerosol. In some regions, like desert areas or polluted towns, this factor becomes dominant.

For this reason, a correct characterization of the aerosol is a hit in order to achieve an accurate forecast of the solar components on the ground. An aerosol operational forecast system is carried on by the Monitoring Atmospheric Composition and Climate (MACC) consortium for this goal. In this paper two applications of MACC aerosol forecast are shown in sections A and B, whereas in section C some comparisons between MACC and spectral measurements are reported. This final analysis is of interest to detect the aerosol behaviour in different portions of the electromagnetic spectrum, corresponding to the bands where the CPV operate.
