RSE Offshore Wind Measurement Station in the Sicily Channel

RSE already developed the Wind Atlas of Italy, but the offshore maps still suffer for a high uncertainty. Starting from 2006, RSE has being carrying out wind measurement campaigns in order to improve the quality of information concerning offshore wind resource in some marine/coastal area. In November 2012, RSE installed an offshore wind measurement station, named MOBI Buoy, 5 km off the coast of Mazara del Vallo in the Sicily Channel.

An elastic beacon buoy was equipped by means of appropriate wind measurements sensors and other, meteo apparatuses. MOBI buoy represents the only one direct offshore wind measurement in this marine area. Together with this buoy two additional stations were set up in the coastal area facing the buoy: the Capo Granitola station, very close to the shoreline, and the Contrada Giletto station, 8 km farer, where RSE already gathered wind data in the past. RSE will provide the MOBI Buoy and Capo Granitola station measured data to EERA JP wind community.
