The presentation illustrates the European and international normative framework concerning Demand Response architectures and communication protocols, with a discussion of the most likely future developments. In particular it illustrates the demand and generation flexibility management of customer energy resources, as defined by the Smart Grid Coordination Group. The architecture and the communication protocol defined within the Working Group 21 of IEC TC 57 is then briefly introduced.
