For the purpose of LCOE-cost comparison in this document, 3 installed system costs for HCPV have been derived,
including a 7% proft: 2.08 euros/Wp for a 30% effciency module, 1.99 euros/Wp for a 32% effciency module and
1.90 euros/Wp for a 34% effciency module. These are the most competitive HCPV-scenarios available.

Fixed Pv, tracked Pv and hCPv, LCOE Comparison
The Levelized Cost Of Energy (LCOE) is the sum of all costs related to the generation of energy in a given period,
divided by the energy generated in the same period. In principle the period is taken as the entire life of the energy
production plant.
The LCOE is expressed in euros/kWh-produced and essentially different from the Installation Costs that are
expressed in euros/Wp (or euros/kWp) installed. HCPV for instance has higher Installation Costs than conventional
c-Si but also has the potential to generate much more energy and therefore can have lower LCOE (in high-DNI
areas). In principle LCOE can also be used to compare the costs of different energy generating technologies (coal,
gas, nuclear, wind, sun, hydro, …).
The problem with LCOE-calculation is that a lot of assumptions have to be made (Table 17), regarding the cost
items to be included in the calculations, and regarding the future cost- and income-developments over long periods.
Obviously LCOE’s can be honestly compared only if all the assumptions are the same.
The results of the LCOE-calculations are shown in Table 18. This table shows the calculation results for fxed c-Si
for 1.40 euros/Wp and 1.60 euros/Wp and for tracked c-Si for 1.70 euros/Wp (sparse layout 2 and dense layout 1)
and 2.00 euros/Wp (only sparse layout 2). For HCPV the results are shown for the sparse layout (2) for 34% modules
with 1.90 euros/Wp, 32% modules with 1.99 eruos/Wp and 30% modules with 2.08 euros/Wp. For the 34% modules
the results for the dense layout (1) are also shown.
