Hydropower – RSE joins EERA Joint Programme Hydropower

Membership provides an opportunity to share knowledge and grow synergies with European experts, enhancing research and development capabilities.

RSE joined EERA Joint Program Hydropower (European Energy Research Alliance), an international research and collaboration network dedicated to hydropower development and innovation. The JP Hydropower aims to facilitate a new role for hydropower as an enabler of the renewable energy system by aligning and targeting research efforts in Europe. The JP Hydropower covers the entire energy chain, from water abstraction to energy integration into the system, including cross-cutting elements such as market design, environmental impact, climate change effects, and political and social issues.

The JP is divided into ‘sub-programmes’ covering the activities of RSE’s 4 Departments:

• SP1: hydropower units;
• SP2: hydropower facilities;
• SP3: grid, system integration and markets;
• SP4: water resources, environmental impact and climate change adaptation;
• SP5: social acceptance, engagement and policies;
• SP6: digitalization.

This membership provides an opportunity to share knowledge and cultivate synergies with European experts, enhancing research and development capabilities. Key benefits include:

  • Privileged access to the knowledge and experience of European experts;
  • Development of partnerships for new international projects;
  • Influence on sector policies.

The inclusion of RSE in this program is a significant step in the effort to promote sustainable energy research and drive innovation in the hydropower sector.
