RESEARCH GROUP MISSION

Promote the sustainable development of the energy system in the territory through the creation and implementation of tools for geo-spatial analysis and models for the optimal planning of the use of renewable energy resources; support public institutions in the implementation of energy policies in the territories.

 

ACTIVITY FIELDS

  • Geo-spatial analyses for the assessment of energy resources and land use, as well as for territorial planning and management
  • Study of environmental and territorial impacts (both onshore and offshore) and the potential of solutions for the energy transition (renewable energy plants, pumped hydro storage, energy transport and distribution, electric mobility)
  • Development of methodologies for the multi-objective optimization of multi-energy systems at a regional scale, also assessing their vulnerability to uncertainties in the local context
  • Hydraulic and hydrological models for the integrated management of water resources and hydraulic risk, also in relation to climate change
  • Specialized contributions to defining measures and action priorities for the energy transition at national and European levels
  • Development of web applications and webGIS platforms for sharing information and tools supporting energy planning and for disseminating knowledge on the energy system, renewable resources, and territorial dynamics
