Outline for the study of the decarbonization of hard-to-abate supply chains and sectors

The study provides initial insights into the four strands of research supporting energy policies on efficiency and decarbonization: digitization, analysis of the decarbonization potential of supply chains in the agribusiness and manufacturing sectors, and the hard-to-abate sector.

DESCRIPTION
The first elements have been prepared to carry out a broader survey methodology on strategies and tools for decarbonizing industrial sectors:
• Integration of new data into the observatory on digitalization in the industrial sector.
• Identification and characterization of one or more manufacturing sector supply chains involved in the decarbonization process.
• Characterization of one or more supply chains in the agri-food sector: analysis of the main actors involved and their relationships.
• Assessment of critical issues related to hard-to-abate sectors: characterization of processes and sectors for which fossil fuel phase-out is problematic.

APPLICATIONS
The studies carried out can be used by national policy makers to target and define effective policies to support the efficiency and decarbonization of the industrial sector, and by industry players and their respective trade representations to raise awareness among stakeholders and support specific sector policies.

USERS
The main users of these preliminary studies may be policy makers, sector operators, trade associations.
