This chapter of the book provides a snapshot of the state of the art of technologies for the sector and paints a picture of the developments expected for future electricity supply systems. Both state-of-the-art and future technologies are grouped into three interconnected pillars of SC D2: ICT systems, telecommunications and cybersecurity.

Digital systems for electricity services have progressively received greater attention in recent decades. With the contribution of SC D2 members, this chapter provides a snapshot of the state of the art of technologies for the sector and paints a picture of the expected developments for future electricity supply systems, also taking into account the differences in the penetration of electricity infrastructures in the world. Both state-of-the-art and future technologies are grouped into three interconnected pillars of SC D2: ICT systems, telecommunications and cybersecurity.
