projects - Power System Research - Three year plan (2000-2002)

Communication between and within electricity systems

The ongoing development of the national electricity system is leading to more stringent requirements in terms of communications in order to be able to operate the electricity service grids in line with market requirements and to guarantee security of supply. The project addresses four distinct themes:
1) introduce and test innovative methods for the specification of distributed systems
2) allow the creation of distributed systems, which make use of public grids and other market components, limiting their vulnerability to intentional attacks and component failures
3) apply innovative communications technologies for the creation of automation, control and regulation systems in plants
4) develop knowledge and basic conditions so that the electricity grid can be used as a vector for new services.
