HVDC developments for the all-island Cyprus system in a pan-European long-term perspective

This article analyzes current and potential developments for the application of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technologies in the Eastern Mediterranean region, with particular focus on Cyprus in a time horizon tending toward the long term (2030 and post-2030). HVDC technology demonstrates its effectiveness for interconnecting the island of Cyprus to the European continental system.

For this purpose, an appropriate optimization analysis tool was applied after developing a pan-European zonal model and related scenarios to duly bring the Cyprus system into account. HVDC technology demonstrates its effectiveness to interconnect the island of Cyprus to the European continental system.
