Monitoring and analysis of recent and ongoing R&I projects on smart grids and vectors integration at European and global level

This review is aimed at analyzing major recent or ongoing research and innovation projects on Smart Grids and energy carrier integration that are being conducted in Europe and different parts of the world, with a focus on Power-to-Gas and Power-to-Heat technologies.

This review is aimed at analyzing major recent or ongoing research and innovation projects on Smart Grids and energy carrier integration being conducted in Europe and different parts of the world, with a focus on Power-to-Gas and Power-to-Heat technologies. Some lessons learned from the analysis are reported in order to highlight potential synergies and possible R&I needs of the different deployment pathways. The analysis helped to show the applied value of these technologies in achieving sustainable and efficient energy systems and indicating the barriers to greater market penetration. Compared to the fairly static development situation of a few years ago, the results highlighted some aspects emerging in the demonstration projects that could lead to significant implementation and deployment of systems based on both technologies in the medium term.
