Inception, a software for partial discharge simulation

In this work we verify the performances of a plasma simulation tool for applications in electric engineering and the prediction of partial discharges.

Numerical simulation has played a key role for modelling partial discharges (PDs). In recent years, semi-empirical approaches have been
supplemented by more complex methods based on plasma physics and the solution of a set of partial differential equations (PDEs). In this
work we describe a model based on the latter approach: it describes the drift and diffusion of charged species by means of the electric field.
This field is influenced by both an external potential, produced by the voltage applied to a set of electrodes, and by the concentration of
charged particles. Several test cases have been considered to evaluate the performances of this approach and to test its accuracy.
