Influence of rider calorie consumption in the life cycle assessment of an eBike

The study aims to analyse the environmental impacts associated with the use of electric vehicles and those generated by the agri-food chain of the food consumed by the rider.

The analysis of the environmental impact of electric micromobility often focuses on the environmental impact of the vehicle’s life cycle. However, it is important to highlight that the use of an eBike requires both electrical energy and muscle power.

 

The latter is related to the food required to cover the energy needs of the rider during physical activity, the impact of which is far from negligible.

 

The present work aims to assess the environmental impact of an eBike, considering not only all the phases of the vehicle’s life cycle, but also those related to the agri-food chain of the food consumed by the rider.
