Smart recharging infrastructure for companies’ EVS fleets: technical realization and load balancing potential

We report on the realization of a smart recharging infrastructure located in the parking facilities of a private company in Italy and argue that workplace recharging is an optimal solution for (1) enabling the widespread adoption of Electric Vehicles in densely populated urban areas and (2) the realization of simple – yet effective – smart-charging schemes.

Our recharging infrastructure is fully compliant with the specifications of the OCPP protocol: all operations are monitored and controlled with an OCPP v1.6 smart system.

 

After one year of 24/24 hr observations, we are able to describe the typical patterns of workplace recharging and quantify how much flexibility can be offered with a simple smart-charging scheme.
