RSE is in Rome for ZeroEmission Mediterranean 2024

From October 16 to 18 in Pavilion 3, at the stand dedicated to System Research.

RSE From October 16 to 18, RSE was at Fiera Roma, taking part in the 2024 edition of ZeroEmission Mediterranean, the fair dedicated to renewable energy and the most advanced technologies for the production, storage and distribution of clean energy.

RSE, together with CSEA, ENEA and CNR, operated the stand dedicated to System Research (RdS), ), in pavilion 3, with the mobile Laboratory of Immersive Reality, where visitors can find out all about the research projects of the national energy sector through virtual experiences.

At the stand, Irene Quinzeni from the Department of Generation Technologies and Materials illustrated prototypes of sodium-ion batteries, electrodes and laboratory cells, offering a concrete and live demonstration of the tangible results of RSE research. Specifically, the demonstrations included a laboratory cell associated with a solar simulator and examples of electrodes for the study of the photoelectrochemical water splitting process, together with active materials for the development of batteries and aqueous sodium ion supercapacitors.

There were also numerous workshops, in which RSE provided an overview of the key issues of the energy transition.

On the opening day, October 16, the Project Leader Matteo Zulianello explored the topic of Renewable Energy Communities during the following events:

  • ’Renewable Energy Communities and decarbonization,’ 11.45 am-1 pm, Conference Room B. Zulianello explored the role of RECs in the transition process, illustrating how these communities can reduce emissions by promoting self-production and shared consumption of clean energy.
  • ’Industrial RECs,’ 3 pm-4 pm, Conference Room B. During this second meeting, the Project Leader highlighted the fact that energy communities promote greater energy efficiency and sustainability.

On October 17, Project Leader Salvatore Guastella illustrated RSE’s point of view on photovoltaics:

  • ’Photovoltaics in Italy: innovation, efficiency, integration, production and sustainability,’ CSEA conference, 2.30 pm-4.00 pm, Conference Room D. Guastella explored the development prospects of solar power in Italy, explaining how technological innovation, efficiency improvement and integration of systems with the surrounding environment are crucial to increasing the competitiveness and sustainability of the sector.

  • ’Photovoltaics in Italy: solar companies talk to institutions and researchers from ReteIFV,’ 4.15-6.00 pm, Conference Room D. Salvatore Guastella introduced the work, while Andrea Danelli, Deputy Project Manager, spoke in this third part of the workshop, providing his contribution to the round table discussion with researchers and contributing to the direct discussion on challenges and opportunities in the sector.

On the final day of October 18, Project Leader Alberto Gelmini attended the workshop remotely:

  • ’General state of storage: objectives, rules, technologies and actors,’ 10.00 am-11.30 am, Conference Room B. During his speech, entitled ‘The role of storage in the renewable system,’ Gelmini explored the fundamental role of storage in the integration of renewable energy, addressing the challenges and opportunities related to the management and development of energy storage technologies.

On the same day, the Research Group Leader Giuseppe Mauri spoke remotely at the session:

  • General storage status: domestic storage”, 11.45 am-1 pm, Conference Room B. Mauri presented the technological solutions available for the enlistment of domestic and private charging infrastructures in demand management schemes, also with the aim of enabling the provision of network services. He also illustrated the first results of the experiments underway in RSE, in particular on the subject of Controller of Charging Infrastructures (CIR)..

In the afternoon of October 18, Project Leader Omar Perego shared RSE’s perspective during the meeting:

  • ’Sodium ion batteries, the contribution of research to industrial development in Italy,’ CSEA conference, 2.30 pm-4.00 pm, Conference Room C. Perego explored the potential of this technology as a sustainable alternative in the energy landscape, highlighting the crucial role of research in its industrial development in Italy. The meeting revealed that companies in Italy are investing in these new technologies, which are considered more promising for the future.
