What are cookies?

A cookie is a small text file that stores information on a user’s visit to a website; this text is sent by the website to the user’s device (computer, tablet, etc.).

Cookies allow the website to identify the user’s device each time they visit, and tracks the browsing history.

Some cookies (session cookies) are automatically deleted at the end of a browsing session, while others (persistent cookies) remain stored on the device, normally hosted in the browser used (e.g., Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.).

For more information on cookies and privacy, please see the guidelines provided by the Italian Data Protection Authority.

Persistent cookies

The website uses session and persistent cookies:

  1. Session cookies are used to improve and make safe the browsing experience and they are automatically deleted when the browser is closed.
  2. A web analytics platform called Matomo is used to measure, collect, analyze, and report visitor data for the purpose of optimizing the website. Persistent cookies are stored in the user’s browser, unless voluntarily deleted.

RSE only processes user data for the purpose of generating statistics. The processing configuration adopted excludes identifying data and can include the following:

  • IP address (anonymized tracking data)
  • Operating system
  • Type of browser
  • Type of device
  1. RSE has developed a persistent registration cookie to monitor the company’s success in disseminating the results of its research.

Personal data processing is subject to the explicit consent of the user. RSE does not use advertising or profiling cookies.

Any use of cookies – or of other tracking tools – by this website is for the purpose of providing the service requested by the user, in addition to any other purposes described in this policy.

RSE uses the cookies active on social media platforms such as YouTube, LinkedIn and X. Users’ personal data is processed in compliance with the cookie policies implemented by each platform.

Disabling cookies

The main browsers can be set to prevent the use of cookies. However, permanently disabling cookies means that some services on the website can no longer be provided, such as document download or contacting RSE via email.
If you wish to disable cookies in your browser, see the related browser support information.
