The ‘Marketplace’ Knowledge Community explores developments in the electro-energy market to foster greater integration of non-programmable renewable energy sources (NPRSs) and more active participation of end consumers.

Building on the European Directives RED II and IEM, which are being transposed in Italy, the KC investigates the possible participation of new players in the energy market, such as renewable energy consumers acting collectively, Renewable Energy Communities, active consortium customers, and Citizen Energy Communities.

The ultimate goal is to move beyond the current classification into ‘bidding zones’ of the entire national grid and replace it with a more detailed representation of the portions of the grid covered by local markets, with a resulting decentralization of the energy market. Particular attention is paid to the regulatory environment.
