Microscopy Laboratory

The laboratory performs mechanical, thermal, and microstructural characterization of materials used in large generation plants as well as in other areas related to power generation processes.

The microscopy laboratory can perform the characterization of various types of materials including non-metallic materials.

The equipment available makes it possible to perform the following types of tests in the laboratory:

• microstructural characterization by optical microscopy examinations;
• field emission gun scanning electron microscopy examinations (FEG-SEM);
• micro hardness measurements;
• metallographic characterization with appropriate sample preparation to highlight microstructure;
• substrate-coating interface;
• particle phases, inclusions or other aspects of interest;
• compositional chemical analysis of steels by optical spectrophotometry;
• EDS microanalysis in scanning electron microscopy
