The Department of Sustainable Development and Energy Sources of RSE was represented by the researcher Martina Colombo at the seminar entitled “Infrastructures: large concrete dams,” held during the course “Safety assessment and retrofitting of existing structures and infrastructures” for students of the master’s degree program in Civil Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino, directed by Professor Marco Domaneschi.

After a general overview of dams and their classification, the seminar discussed the crucial role these structures will play in the future and the importance of monitoring them through complex studies and analysis.

Particular attention has been given to the use of models capable of simulating the crackling behavior of dams and to the possibility of raising these structures to increase water storage in order to deal with climate change and the increasing world population.
