At the 92nd Annual Meeting of the International Commission On Large Dams (ICOLD), held in New Delhi from 27 September to 3 October 2024, Antonella Frigerio, Deputy Director of RSE’s Sustainable Development and Energy Sources Department, was appointed Chair of the Technical Committee A “Computational aspects of analysis and design of dams”.

In this new challenge, Antonella Frigerio will be joined by Russell Gunn, deputy head of the Dam Safety and Surveillance Department of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE), appointed co-chair of TC-A, and by Prof. Gerald Zenz of the Graz University of Technology, former co-chair of TC-A.

The aim of the new leadership is to give continuity to the numerous activities carried out by TC-A since the early 1990s under the leadership of Prof. Michele Fanelli and promoted in recent years with great enthusiasm and involvement by Guido Mazzà, President of ITCOLD.

The next steps of the TC-A will concern the definition of the new Terms of Reference for the period 2025-2028, the organisation together with the Bulgarian National Committee on Large Dams (BUNCOLD) of the next Benchmark Workshop, to be held in Sofia (Bulgaria) on 9-12 April 2025, and the completion of the two Bulletins on the capitalisation of the results of numerical analyses on concrete and embankment dams, obtained in the previous BWs carried out on a biennial basis since 1991.
