RSE in China for second international workshop dedicated to Green Powered Future Mission

RSE delegation stops in Yancheng: a significant contribution to the Mission.

 

The International Conference of the Green Powered Future Mission (GPFM) “Green Power Innovation Conference,” titled this year “Global Clean Nexus: Collaborating for a Green Powered Future,” is currently underway. The event is organized and hosted by the Chinese co-leads of the GPFM from the Institute of Electrical Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Science (IEE CAS) in Yancheng, Jiangsu province, China, on 10-14 December 2024.

 

 

On 11 December, the Plenary Day was officially opened by the Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Xiao Wang; by the Mayor of Yancheng, Minglang Zhang; the Leadership of Mission Innovation represented by Eleanor Webster, Head of the Mission Innovation Secretariat; Luciano Martini, Director of GPFM and RSE’s Transmission and Distribution Technologies Department. They welcomed the participants and highlighted the successful activities and results of the Green Powered Future Mission, emphasizing the crucial importance of international cooperation.

 

 

The day, which involved over 200 participants, was mainly dedicated to international collaboration within the Mission and the presentation of research activities in the field of renewable energies.

 

 

RSE played a special role throughout the event and had the opportunity to actively contribute to the various sessions on the agenda: Luciano Martini, presented the strong international coalition and the ambitious goals of the Mission, highlighting the significant contributions of the three co-leads China, Italy, and the United Kingdom, the main results of the initiative, and the activities planned within the national pilot projects and demonstrators; Mattia Cabiati, Coordinator of Pillar 2 of the Mission, presented the Italian national pilot projects with a focus on flexibility, showcasing Italian excellence in this field; Gloria Scalco, part of the International Cooperation team, presented the activities carried out by the GPFM Communication team to give visibility to the Mission’s events and results, focusing on specific communication and dissemination actions.

 

 

Furthermore, Luciano Martini had the opportunity to renew a special 3-year collaboration agreement between RSE and IEECAS, signing a Memorandum of Understanding with IEECAS Director and Researcher Yibo Wang in support of the Mission’s activities.

 

 

The plenary session also hosted the interesting “Stakeholder Dialogue” panel, moderated by Luciano Martini, with the participation of Mattia Cabiati, bringing in the Italian experience, China, the UK, and various Chinese private sector stakeholders. Additionally, a special session was held dedicated to GPFM Flagship Project 1, during which various coalition members, including China, Italy, the UK, Brazil, Japan, and Spain, presented the main activities and national innovation projects for the decarbonization of energy systems.

 

 

The Conference will also include additional days of technical panels, focusing on innovative technologies in the field of renewable energies and key aspects for transforming energy systems. Among the various panels on the agenda, there will be those dedicated to offshore photovoltaics, innovative solar cells, offshore wind energy, and direct current systems, featuring presentations from industry experts and technical specialists of global relevance.

 

 

The event will conclude with technical visits to the Renewable Energy Technology Innovation Center (Jiangsu) and Jiangsu Runergy New Energy Technology, where highly advanced technologies supporting the integration of renewable energies will be showcased.
