Terna and RSE together for the development of energy and environmental projects and technologies

The agreement aims to initiate and disseminate new innovation processes for the benefit of the electricity system. Among other things, the five-year agreement will allow for in-depth exploration of topics concerning the development and integration of renewable sources as well as enabling technologies for the energy transition.

Terna, the operator of the national electricity transmission grid, and RSE – Ricerca sul Sistema Energetico, a leading company in analysis and applied research in the energy sector, signed a five-year collaboration agreement aimed at the development and application of processes and technologies in the energy and environmental fields, promoting, in this context, study initiatives and development and innovation activities.

The agreement was signed on February 14 in Rome by Giuseppina Di Foggia, CEO and General Manager of Terna, and Prof. Franco Cotana, Managing Director of RSE.

“We are proud to have entered into this agreement with an excellence on the Italian and European scene that has always been committed to the study and identification of efficient solutions for the energy sector,” said Giuseppina Di Foggia, CEO and General Manager of Terna. “The collaboration we are launching today will allow us to develop new technologies that will increasingly respond to the growing needs and challenges of the energy transition, consistent with national and international decarbonization targets.”

“The global energy transition requires a greater diffusion of electricity in all sectors. Italy therefore needs high-performance, smart and capillary electricity grids capable of serving increasingly demanding users. The signing of this agreement between RSE and Terna sets forth an important collaboration for the development of alternating current and also direct current networks, and for the transportation of energy throughout Italy,” commented Franco Cotana, Managing Director of RSE.

Terna and RSE will therefore be able to cooperate, through planning, programming and coordination actions, in order to create an environment conducive to the development of research, technologies and the dissemination of innovation, energy security and resilience projects for the electricity grid, which is of fundamental importance for Terna, as an enabler of the energy transition, and for RSE, as a promoter of innovation, efficiency and circularity in the entire energy and sustainability chain.
