The EU METALDECARB project has been approved by the European Commission

The goal is to support the transition to climate neutrality of the base metals and foundry sector.

The European Commission has officially approved METALDECARB, a European project coordinated by the SSE – Energy Systems Development Department of RSE, aimed at supporting the transition to climate neutrality of the base metals and foundry sector (NACE 24), an essential element for many production chains and net-zero technologies. The sector, characterized by high energy consumption and strong exposure to the dynamics of global markets, today requires concrete tools to combine competitiveness and sustainability.

METALDECARB was born from an idea of SSE Department to provide operational answers through:
• a capacity building program dedicated to companies in the sector and the main stakeholders;
• the creation of structured collaborations between industrial companies and suppliers of net-zero technologies;
• four national pilot initiatives, coordinated at European level;
• standardized case studies and turnkey solutions based on clean energy technologies;
• solid and replicable business models, inspired by the principle of energy efficiency first and integrated with non-energy benefits and ESG needs.

METALDECARB represents a fundamental step to accompany a strategic part of European industry in the climate transition, while ensuring economic competitiveness and environmental sustainability.

The results of the project will be available to the entire sector, with the aim of accelerating the green transformation and contributing to the achievement of the European Union’s climate goals.
