Laboratory testing to provide pre-normative input regarding industrial plant emissions

The experiments and the datasets of related results are an important information asset for the verification of methods for measuring compounds in industrial emissions and for the acquisition of experimental know-how by control bodies.


 
DESCRIPTION
The RSE-EmiLab LOOP laboratories and plants and the supporting facility have been used to develop studies with the purpose of pre-normative input for:
a) the development of formaldehyde measurement techniques and field verification of decisions made in the regulatory committee; a Proficiency Testing exercise in collaboration with the SNPA system, and corresponding laboratory experiences on HCHO, were conducted (June/July 2023).
b) the execution at the RSE LOOP laboratory of an experimental campaign in which 12 laboratories belonging to different Italian regional and provincial environmental protection agencies (ARPAs/APPAs) participated, held in October 2022 and divided into three different sessions each lasting two days; the campaign involved the aforementioned laboratories in sampling and analyzing an emission mixture containing formaldehyde, water vapor, hydrochloric acid and sulfur dioxide.
 
APPLICATIONS
The tests conducted and the results obtained can be applied in regulatory development in the European context,as verifications of methods and procedures. Data sets are also an important element of laboratory growth in the measurement of compounds of interest.
 
USERS
The main users of the tests and their results are the SNPA, ARPA and APPA network laboratories and the corresponding regulatory committees, which receive proposals for validation and integration as a result of the tests conducted.
