Production of first dual-phase membranes for oxygen separation in industrial plants

Initial production tests of dual-phase membranes for oxygen separation in industrial plants have shown that dual-phase membranes can be produced using similar manufacturing processes to those used for single-phase membranes.

DESCRIPION
With regard to the use of new ceramic materials, asymmetric membranes have been produced using various LSCF powders with increasing surface area up to 10 m2/g. It has been demonstrated that the RSE-optimized tape casting process can be adapted to powders of different morphologies, and thus can be applied in the future to new compounds for which powders specifically designed for this type of manufacturing are not available. In parallel, dual-phase 70CGO-30LSCF membranes have been preliminarily manufactured, both asymmetric by tape casting and dense by uniaxial pressing.

APPLICATIONS
The results of the study can be applied to research into the use of industrial thermal waste for the energy-efficient production of oxygen in industrial processes.

USERS
The main users of these results are industrial operators with a need for pure oxygen use in high temperature processes
